Jenifer has been sewing since she was a little girl, making doll clothes out of her mother’s sewing scraps. Growing up, Jenifer enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and many other crafts, but when she served as a Dental Technician in the USN, she took a break from creating. Once she met her husband in the Navy and settled down, the sewing bug hit again. Later, her creativity blossomed to include quilting and rug hooking.
Jenifer and her sister, Gretchen Smith, started a business that turned into a quilt and wool shop. They ran the shop together for about 16 years; first as an online business, then as a brick and mortar. Jenifer’s love of wool and cotton inspired her to design quilts and other projects for their shop, then later, her online business. She also authored a book with Martingale and joined forces with another of her sisters, Judy Williamson, to create the “Primitive Quilts and Projects Magazine” in 2011. They’ve been using the magazine to share the work of other Primitive Style Designers ever since.
Jenifer has been free motion quilting for almost as long as she’s made quilts. While she doesn't claim to be a great free motion quilter, she does a mean stipple! She plans to grow her skills by learning more free motion patterns and sharing her primitive quilt-making style as a Grace Company Ambassador.
She and her husband, Glen, live in a quiet little town in West Virginia with their Golden Retriever, Chester. They have two adult children and three grandchildren.
